Dubai has launched a new innovation that combines artificial intelligence and consumer trust: a self-service kiosk that can test the purity of gold jewellery in less than a minute.
At GITEX Global 2025, Dubai Municipality has introduced the “Smart Gold and Jewellery Testing Lab”, touted as the world's first AI-based gold testing kiosk.
Unlike the well-known ATMs for dispensing gold, the kiosk performs the same-day purity test on jewellery and produces a report with the percentage of gold, silver, copper and zinc in the sample.
Customers can choose to receive results via SMS or a printed version which resembles a receipt received at an ATM.
According to a spokesperson for Dubai Municipality, the system uses AI, machine learning, and the Internet of Things (IoT) to provide results in less than a minute.
The spokesperson confirmed that AI will replace the current weeklong lab test for jewellery purities. “This innovation will increase transparency, efficiency, and customer satisfaction in the gold industry.”
This initiative also helps with Dubai’s agenda to cement its status as a global hub for gold and jewellery. Officials also indicated smart kiosks would be established in the near future in places such as the Dubai Gold Souk and large malls so visitors and residents can easily have jewellery purity checked.
By bringing AI technology to one of its most iconic industries, Dubai continues to show why it’s called the City of Gold, setting new standards for trust, innovation, and customer service in the jewellery market.
