The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reminded all taxpayers to file their income tax returns accurately and honestly using the new simplified return form.

Notably, the deadline for filing is 30 September, 2025, the FBR announced, adding that this form is designed to make tax compliance easier for salaried people, business owners, and freelancers.

In addition to the reminder, the FBR suspended the Digital Presence Proceeds Tax effective 1 July 2025. The board stated they will not be enforcing this tax, which targeted earnings from digital presence outside Pakistan, temporarily relieving burdens on citizens relying on digital or globally digital income.

Reportedly, the simplified return form and the suspension of the Digital Presence Proceeds tax indicate the FBR's aims to encourage compliance, reduce mistakes, and avoid penalising those not fully aware of how to properly comply with the complicated obligation.

Notably, the authority also cautions that penalties under existing laws can apply to incorrect or late filings, reminding that there will be no tolerance for late filings, with no extension of the 30 September filing deadline having yet been announced.

Furthermore, officials urged that if taxpayers file returns with the wrong information, they will be subject to audit and/or enforcement provisions, possibly legal actions under the tax code.

In the meantime, the Board is continuing to operate help desks and support centres that are in place to assist in responding to questions that people may have related to the new return and the rescinded tax of which the FBR announced.
