In the latest turn of events around flight operations in Pakistan, flight operations at Pakistan's major airports have reportedly been resumed after undergoing a short-lived suspension earlier today in view of the ongoing border situation between Pakistan and India, Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) announced.
Flights at Lahore, Sialkot, and Islamabad airports are now operational after the aviation authority halted services until 12 noon today, according to Geo News.
The time-bound flight suspension, with a 12:00pm deadline which was later extended to 6:00pm, in the country was enforced because of escalating tensions with India after cross-border missile strikes.
People awaiting their scheduled departures have been advised to keep in touch with their airlines for updated flight schedules.
Islamabad Airport closed amid Pakistan-India tensions
Regarding the closure of Islamabad Airport, the PAA said it was shut owing to “operational reasons,” while the move is believed to be a safety measure given the possibility of Indian airspace violations.
It was also learned that several international airlines cancelled or rerouted their flights after Indian missiles struck Pakistan.
According to flight-tracking websites, Oman, the UAE, and Kuwait were the top alternative routes taken by diverted flight planes.
