In a bid to widen the accessibility of its in-house artificial intelligence (AI) tool, Google has embedded Gemini AI editing tools into Google Photos, allowing millions of Android users to make the most of a feature that was previously exclusive to the latest Pixel phones.
In an announcement, the search giant said that Gemini-powered tools are now being rolled out in Google Photos, so that users can edit their pictures with simple voice or text commands.
Unlike other AI tools, where you need to sift through complicated menus, you can simply describe the edits you want in plain language. After that, simply tap “Help me edit” in the photo editor, type or speak your request, and the AI will handle the rest.
Google also provides helpful Gemini suggestions for those unversed with where to start Gemini-assisted editing in Google Photos. A straightforward way for such rookies to make visual enhancements without diving deep into complexities is a simple command like “make it better.”
Originally launched in August with the Pixel 10 in the US, this Gemini AI-enabled editing feature is now also available for Android users aged 18 and older.
The notable aspect is that the AI chatbot can handle everything from basic edits—adjusting brightness or removing minor distractions—to more advanced tasks like erasing objects from the background or restoring old photos. It can even add creative, AI-generated elements to your images to inflict unique and attractive touch-ups.
Another amazing feature is that Gemini also responds to follow-up requests, meaning users don’t have to settle for the first edit. This makes it a considerable option for users who refine their photos or videos until they achieve the desired look.
