Google Gemini is getting a new ability allowing users to handle calls and text messages from the lock screen, even when the phone is locked.

Gemini AI on Android lock screen

According to Android Authority, the tech giant is working on new Gemini AI assistant features, as spotted in the Google app beta version 15.42.30.28.arm64.

Google has added a new option that appears in the “Gemini on the lock screen” menu within Gemini AI's settings.

Titled “Make calls and send messages without unlocking,” the new option is followed by a toggle switch, allowing users to turn it on if they want to access the new functionality.

While users can still make calls and send messages even when the phones are locked using Google Assistant, this new feature extends the capability to the Gemini AI virtual assistant.

Enabling Gemini to make calls and send messages from the lock screen will allow users to respond to urgent messages or make calls without the extra step of unlocking their phones.

However, when the feature is rolled out, users will still have to unlock the device to check incoming messages containing private information.

Google has also introduced an updated UI for Gemini, improving the floating Gemini overlay. It has added a new minimal interface; however, the text input box expands vertically to make all the text visible.
