Google has reportedly added support for eSIM transfers across Android smartphones, the embedded digital SIM cards used to activate mobile plans. Initially observed when some users transferred their eSIM from an older Pixel phone to the Pixel 8 last year, the feature has expanded to allow users to transfer their digital SIM from an existing device to a Samsung Galaxy S24 series phone.

Gadgets360, citing Android Police reported, that the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra setup process prompts users to decide whether they want to transfer their SIM from another device. By placing the old phone next to the new one, a popup on the old phone initiates the transfer, requiring users to scan a QR code.

This feature aims to provide the convenience of transferring eSIMs without needing to visit a physical outlet, similar to switching out a physical SIM card and placing it in a new one.

Last year, Google announced this capability at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023, intending to enable eSIM transfers across devices and conversion from physical SIMs to eSIMs. While the feature surfaced with Pixel 8 upgrades last year, its appearance on the Galaxy S24 Ultra suggests Google's expansion to other OEMs.

Currently, the eSIM transfer feature is reported to work with T-Mobile eSIM profiles, with availability limited to certain regions, and users in other areas, including India, may have to wait until their telecom operators support Google's transfer functionality to move existing eSIMs to other Android smartphones.
