Google’s Gemini app, which now includes AI video generation, might soon offer this powerful tool to free users. Currently, this feature is only available to Gemini Advanced subscribers, but a recent report hints that a freemium version is on the way.

Gemini is Google's AI writing assistant that assists with writing, research, and now short video creation. Google released a video generation based on its Veo 2 model earlier today.

The feature can transform text prompts into short, 8-second video clips, but only for paid users of Gemini Advanced.

According to the Android Authority, recently discovered hints in a beta build of the Google app indicate a freemium approach might be imminent. The code references both a "freemium" feature and an "onramp" and a "pro entry point."

This implies that Google could provide free users with partial access to video creation as a means of enticing them to pay for a premium plan.

Moreover, the specifics of the freemium model aren't yet confirmed, but based on comparable features in the past, such as Deep Research, free subscribers could be able to create some videos each month. If that's the case, people could test the tool without commitment before they choose to pay for full access.

Google has not yet confirmed or denied this feature officially, but the trend is evident. Similar to Deep Research, code teases new features ahead of release, and those features follow soon after.

If Google does release this freemium product, it will have the mighty power of AI video creation available to millions of users who don't shell out for Gemini, a significant step towards making AI accessible to everyone.
