Google Workspace subscription prices for businesses have significantly increased in select regions as part of a restructuring that incorporates advanced Gemini artificial intelligence (AI)-backed features into all plans.
Previously available as a separate add-on costing $20, the cutting-edge Gemini AI tools are now included in the Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, and Enterprise subscriptions.
Price increase details
In the US, subscription prices rose by $2 (INR 173), with the lowest tier now costing $14 (INR 1,200) per user per month. In India, prices remain unchanged, but AI features are now listed as benefits under the plans.
Alphabet-owned Google explained the change by comparing the previous cost structure. For instance, a Business Standard plan with the Gemini AI add-on, which was previously available for $32 per user per month, is now priced at $14 — just $2 more than the plan without the AI tools.
Improved features for Google Workspace subscribers
Workspace subscribers can now access advanced Gemini AI tools seamlessly across several apps including Gmail, Docs, Chat, and more. The subscription includes the Gemini chatbot and paid subscribers will have access to all the available Gemini models. Additionally, users will also get access to NotebookLM Plus, the premium version of Google's AI-powered research assistant platform.
This update offers significant value to organisations that were previously paying for the Gemini add-on. However, businesses that were content with the basic Workspace features will now face increased subscription costs, even if they don’t utilise the AI tools.
The restructuring adds immense value to Workspace subscriptions by bundling cutting-edge AI features, but it may pose a challenge to cost-conscious customers who previously relied on the basic package.
