The trailer for Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6 has surpassed 200 million views on YouTube, just seven months after its initial release.

The sixth addition to the popular franchise had been eagerly awaited for years. Originally set to release on 6th December 2023, the promo was released a day early following a low-quality leak.

The upload garnered 96 million views within its first 24 hours, making it the first non-music video to achieve such views in this timeframe.

Despite its relative age in the media, the video has consistently racked up views, hitting the 200 million mark on the evening of 13th July ET, seven months and eight days after its initial release.

Sure, the rate at which views have climbed has slowed down—the video took an entire week to cross the 199 million mark—but regardless, the milestone was reached.

The scene is set for even more viewership records as the title is more than a year away from its release. This will coincide with more access to the game’s content, subsequently leading to more views.

Meanwhile, the current heavyweight, GTA 5, remains a relevant title in the industry, with its promo stacking up 111 million views as of July 2024.

With its previous venture, Rockstar released six trailers, the first two being a year apart. Industry analysts predict that there will be a similar trend with this new addition as well.

There’s an expectation of a second trailer release in December 2024 and another in the spring of next year. A more in-depth view might be given in the third or fourth trailer.

The game itself has so far only been confirmed for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. PC gamers will likely have to wait until at least 2026 before they're able to play GTA 6.
