How to apply for passport online in Pakistan: Step-by-step guide

Citizens can now apply for their Pakistani passports online without waiting in long queues

Pakistan's Directorate General Immigration & Passports' (DGIP) convenient online passport application system allows citizens to apply from the comfort of their home through the 'e-Services Portal', without visiting passport offices. 

In a video post on its Facebook, the authority stated that citizens can now apply for their Pakistani passports online without waiting in long queues. 

The passport department informed the public that they can visit the official website www.onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk to submit an online passport renewal application.

Here's how you can apply for passport online

  • Visit the official portal at www.onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk to begin your application.
  • Log in or create a new account.
  • Verify your account.
  • After entering your information, type the verification code shown on screen and click Next.
  • A verification link will be sent to your email. Click the link and enter the code to complete registration.
  • Sign in and select your required service.
  • Select your nearest passport office.
  • Follow renewal rules.
  • Upload the required documents and photo.
  • Submit your application.

Once you have applied, if a physical visit is required, your selected passport office will appear along with further instructions.

It should be noted that the passport department has eased the difficulty faced by online passport applicants regarding fingerprint verification. With the cooperation of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), a new fingerprint verification system has been introduced on the Pak-ID app.

With this online method, citizens can complete most of the passport process easily and avoid long waiting times at passport offices.
