Hub Power Holdings Limited (Hubco), Pakistan’s largest Independent Power Producer (IPP), is set to play a major role in the country’s electric vehicle (EV) transformation. Its subsidiary, HUBCO Green (Private) Limited, has partnered with Pakistan State Oil (PSO) to install EV charging stations at PSO fuel pumps nationwide.
The company announced this development in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday. Pakistan is gradually shifting towards New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), including Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) due to the rise in global demand for electric vehicles.
Hubco Green’s growing EV network
Hubco Green recently launched its first EV charging station at Ocean Mall in Karachi and has ambitious plans to expand across motorways, highways, major cities, and commercial areas.
The goal is to establish a reliable and advanced EV charging network to support the growing number of electric vehicles on Pakistani roads.
PSO, the country’s largest fuel marketing company, brings its vast network of fueling stations to the table, making it an ideal partner for nationwide EV infrastructure expansion. These charging stations will help reduce range anxiety and encourage more consumers to switch to electric vehicles.
Pakistan’s electric vehicle future
The National Electric Vehicle Policy (NEVP) aims to have 30% of new passenger vehicles and heavy-duty trucks electric by 2030 and 90% by 2040. The government has also issued licenses to 57 EV manufacturers, including 55 for two- and three-wheelers and two for four-wheeler assembly, signalling strong support for local EV production.
