In what looks like a step to ensure transparency and consumer protection, the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) and NADRA Technologies Limited have made biometric verification mandatory for all new electricity connections and reconnections.

The initiative was undertaken at IESCO's Head Office by IESCO CEO Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mehmood and NADRA Technologies CEO Umar Khan Azad.

The move is in line with the government and the energy ministry's focus on consumer convenience and digitalisation.

With the new system in place, biometric verification will be required to authenticate the identities of applicants and ultimately ensure secure and fraud-free access to electricity services.

The move is believed to make service delivery efficient, eliminate fraudulent connections, and enhance accountability across the distribution network.

During the signing ceremony, Mehmood emphasised the need to modernise Pakistan's power infrastructure to fulfil the changing consumers' demands.

He stated, "This partnership with NADRA Technologies will not only improve operational efficiency but also strengthen public confidence in our services."

This innovative approach is expected to transform how electricity services are accessed in Pakistan, making the process more secure and reliable for all consumers across Islamabad.
