In a groundbreaking development, the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) on Thursday announced that its internet services will be fully restored across the country in a few days.

The announcement comes on the heels of the AAE-1 undersea internet cable getting damaged due to an unidentified reason, as reported by The News.

“However, slowness might be experienced on Meta-related services (WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram) during peak hours,” read the statement issued by the company.

It also emerged that the telecom provider has installed an additional bandwidth which has restored its internet services to a great extent nationwide.

The swift resolution is reportedly stemming from collaborative efforts by the PTCL and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

Earlier this week, following a fault reported in the AAE-1 undersea cable docker near Qatar, PTA rang an alarm pointing to a possible downtime for both internet and broadband users in the country.

The submarine cable is one of the seven international undersea cables connecting Pakistan to international internet traffic. The PTCL internet issues were initially addressed through the integration of temporary bandwidth into the system.

Regarding the internet woes Pakistan is currently encountering, Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja said authorities were working to revive an additional 200 gigabytes per second.
