Apple has officially introduced the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max at its "Awe Dropping" event 2025, while retaining the same 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes from last year, but with key upgrades to displays, performance, cameras, and battery life.
In addition to size and design differences, Apple has intended to offer the iPhone 17 Pro series as the most powerful with brighter displays, less fragility, upgraded cameras, and longer battery life, with the intention of giving users a clear upgrade from the iPhone 16 Pro series.
Display and durability
The new Pro models reach an impressive 3,000 nits peak brightness outdoors, surpassing the 2,000 nits for the iPhone 16 Pro series and now doubling the outdoor contrast ratio.
Apple has also released their latest Ceramic Shield 2, which promises 3x better scratch resistance and offers it as an elimination on the front and back of devices.
Performance boost with A19 Pro
iPhone 17 Pro's A19 Pro chip provides up to 40% better sustained performance due to the new vapour chamber redesign compared to the iPhone 16 Pro series.
The Pro series also has more memory, as some reports list a new memory capacity standard of 12GB RAM as opposed to 8GB of RAM on the iPhone 16 Pro.
Camera upgrades
Apple redesigned its Pro camera system with a new 18MP Centre Stage front camera that automatically adjusts its field of view. On the rear are three 48MP Fusion cameras—Main, Ultra Wide, and Telephoto—with up to 8x optical zoom and up to 40x digital zoom; videographers also benefit from ProRes RAW, Genlock, Log 2, and Dual Capture video.
Design, colours and battery
The Pro version is the only model to get a brushed aluminium unibody and full-width rear "plateau" for the camera; Apple also went bold with its colours—Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue, and Silver—but omitted those versions of Black and Gold finished in standard iPhones. Enormous advances in battery life: the iPhone 17 Pro promises 33 hours of video playback, and the Pro Max 39 hours.
Storage and price
All iPhone 17 models now start at 256GB storage. The iPhone 17 Pro will start at $1,099 (approximately Rs313,475 in Pakistan without the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) tax and import duty). The iPhone 17 Pro Max will sell for $1,199 (approximately Rs341,999). The Pro Max got a new 2TB storage option for heavy users.
