In response to escalating security concerns, commercial banks across the federal capital, particularly in Blue Area and Aabpara, were instructed to cease operations at 2pm on Friday. This decision follows a series of robberies that have raised alarms among law enforcement agencies.

The News, citing sources, reported that officials found commercial banks were not adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs) regarding security measures. These lapses were identified by the Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), notably the Islamabad Police, following a troubling week marked by multiple robbery incidents.

“Yes, instructions were received by different branches of the commercial banks for closing down their operations on Friday afternoon for security,” a representative from one of the banks told the publication. He added that the directive was aimed at specific branches in light of the deteriorating security conditions surrounding financial institutions in recent days.

An official from the Islamabad Police noted that banks were urged to ensure full compliance with the established security SOPs. To address these concerns, extraordinary measures have been implemented by both the government and law enforcement agencies to enhance security protocols.

The police have identified a troubling pattern, suggesting that a “psychopath” is allegedly behind the recent robbery attempts in various banks across Islamabad and its adjoining areas. In response, a special squad has been assigned to apprehend the suspect, reflecting the seriousness of the situation.

The early closure of bank operations underscores the growing anxiety surrounding public safety in the capital, with officials urging all institutions to remain vigilant in the face of these threats.
