The Capital Development Authority (CDA), in partnership with the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), is all set to provide free Wi-Fi to residents, visitors, and commuters at 30 designated sites in Islamabad.

The free Wi-Fi service in Islamabad will start as early as December 30, the National Assembly was told on Tuesday.

Phase one of the locations includes the metro and feeder bus stations, CDA Hospital, Japanese Park, Lake View Park, Daman-e-Koh, Fatima Jinnah Park, Sunday Bazaars in G-6 and H-9, and commercial areas like F-6 Markaz and F-7 Markaz.

The service is expected to help connect residents, visitors, and commuters so they have safe and reliable access to the Internet and other web-based resources, support e-governance, digital inclusion, and local entrepreneurship.

CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa stated that while the authority's technical team will work with the NTC on technical aspects, the NTC will manage operations and maintenance.

He said they are also developing an operational-marketing framework to make the service sustainable by domestically sourcing revenue and reinvesting it into upgrades and maintenance of the system.

This effort is part of the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of a “connected, digital Pakistan,” and an earlier directive to transform Islamabad into a “free Wi-Fi city” to provide high-tech services to its citizens.

Further details regarding access procedures, bandwidth limits, and post‑launch support are expected to be announced by CDA and NTC ahead of the launch date.
