K-Electric in a lawsuit it lodged with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) agreed to refund Rs0.16 per unit to consumers.
The refund from the Karachi-based energy company is reportedly being provided as part of monthly fuel charge adjustments (FCA) for September 2024, which amounts to around Rs247 million in total.
A meeting has been scheduled on October 31 by NEPRA to review the petition, where it will be assessed whether the said FCA was justified and if K-Electric abided by the standard merit during the purchasing electricity from external sources or generating it from its own power plants.

The lawsuit outlined that the provisional FCAs were based on parameters described in the Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) for 2017-2023, whereas the completion of MYT for 2024-2030 is a prerequisite for adjustments to come into effect.
FCA for September was calculated by taking into account the interim tariff established in March 2023. The K-Electric petition comprehensively entails calculations and supporting documentation for NEPRA’s evaluation and approval.
