The Punjab government has installed electric-vehicle (EV) charging stations close to the Archives Department building within the Civil Secretariat, marking a major step towards greener urban mobility.
Currently in use, the chargers are devoted to assisting the expanding fleet of electric vehicles owned by the government. The goal of the action, officials stressed, is to reduce pollution in the environment and promote the province-wide use of eco-friendly vehicles.
Authorities have authorised the development of a new parking lot behind the Interior Department building on the Secretariat grounds, in addition to the charging infrastructure.
It is anticipated that the extra parking will reduce long-standing traffic and improve accessibility for both staff and guests.
The program builds on the province's electric bus service, which was launched in February 2025 with a fleet of 27 buses and is expected to grow rapidly.
Additionally, private electric cars are growing in popularity, providing locals with more environmentally friendly transportation options.
The Punjab government intends to install EV charging stations at 241 key spots across Lahore, catering to both large and small users.
The project is in line with the province's larger clean-energy and climate policy, which aims to promote contemporary, low-carbon mobility options, cut emissions, and lessen smog.
