The Lahore High Court biometric verification system was officially launched on Wednesday to ensure accurate identification of people involved in court cases.
The new system, introduced under the directives of the National Judicial Policy-Making Committee, aims to stop identity fraud and misuse during legal proceedings.
With the new biometric verification system, litigants, witnesses, and sureties are also supposed to verify their identities using the biometric verification system at the time of filing cases.
According to the judiciary officials, the system will help ensure that the people who have cases before the courts are the ones who actually turn up.
The biometric verification process developed by the Lahore High Court is well-linked with the National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA). It means the fingerprints as well as the identity of the person will be verified against the record.
To facilitate the citizens, verification points will also be provided at the NADRA e-Sahulat centres in Punjab, especially for those who are unable to avail the services of the courts.
To begin with, the project has been launched at the main sitting of the Lahore High Court and all its benches located in Multan, Bahawalpur, and Rawalpindi. It has been confirmed that all district courts in Punjab will also implement biometric identity verification for litigants, witnesses, and sureties.
Legal circles are of the view that the use of biometric verification within Punjab courts will make legal procedures easier, eliminate impersonation, and increase confidence in the judicial system among the public.
According to court officials, it is crucial to adopt modern technology to make legal procedures efficient and safe as the number of cases continues to increase.
