The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has extended the deadline for installing bidirectional green meters in solar energy systems. Consumers now have until November 30 to secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for purchasing these meters.
However, this is the third time the deadline has been pushed forward due to delays in the timely procurement of smart meters by LESCO.
Initially, restrictions were set to begin on November 15, but the extension allows more time for solar energy users to comply. After the new deadline, LESCO will start installing smart Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) metres for solar energy systems.
The price for the bidirectional meters has been set at Rs41,000, with additional installation charges.

These smart meters come with advanced software to record both imported and exported electricity units, making net metering more transparent and accurate.
LESCO plans to manage all billing through a centralised control room, ensuring efficient data handling and precise electricity usage monitoring.
The bidirectional green meters play an essential role in solar systems by enabling balancing billing, where users can sell excess electricity back to the grid. This supports clean energy adoption and provides financial benefits to users.
Consumers are encouraged to obtain their NOCs before the deadline to avoid delays. These updates reflect LESCO’s effort to promote renewable energy while addressing challenges in meter procurement. The extension offers solar energy users more time to comply with these essential requirements.
