Meta has been on quite the roll recently. First, a bunch of new features were added to Meta AI (artificial intelligence) and now the same AI will be added to Quest headsets next month.

According to the company’s release video, the AI will operate as a personal assistant to the virtual reality headset, answering regular questions while obtaining real-time information through Bing.

Meta AI Vision will use the headset’s camera to identify people, places and objects, providing contextual responses to inquiries regarding them. Users could have the feature to translate a piece of text in front of them or identify a certain location they’re in.

Note that the feature is still experimental, available exclusively in Canada and the US. Users can head to the settings menu on their headset and select ‘experimental’ to have the toggle appear, from where they may activate the feature.

Since the feature remains in testing, users won’t experience the full extent of Meta AI. The vision feature would be available through Passthrough on the Quest 3 and Quest Pro but it won’t work in virtual reality mode.

“Virtual objects are not recognised at this time,” Meta stated.

In the future, the company intends to replace voice commands, which users currently use to interact with the headset, with Meta AI, though they’ll remain if the AI model isn’t used.

Details relating to voice commands remain scarce owing to little disclosure by the Meta spokesperson.
