Meta announced the development of the latest artificial intelligence (AI) model — Movie Gen — on October 4 (Friday). It can generate pragmatic video and audio clips in response to user prompts which is all set to compete with its rivals including OpenAI and ElevenLabs.

Meta provided a few samples of Movie Gen’s creation for a better comprehension of the recently introduced AI model. The samples include a few real photos of people performing several activities.

Movie Gen is capable of creating background music and sound effects synchronised to the video content. According to Meta, users can generate 16 seconds of a video with audio of up to 45 seconds long.

It further shared blind tests hinting that the model can perform well in contrast to other offerings of its rivals such as OpenAI, ElevenLabs, and more.

The announcements come as the Hollywood industry currently struggles this year to use the cutting-edge technology of generative AI video.

Entertainment industry technologists are utilising advanced technology to expedite filmmaking and streamline their experience.

The rise of AI video generators has raised concerns of a few lawmakers about how easily it can generate deep fakes that are unethically being utilised in elections globally, and even to perform illegal activities.

According to Meta spokesperson, Meta was uncertain about the release of Movie Gen for open use by developers. Facebook owners were working directly along with the entertainment industry and a few other content creators on utilising Movie Gen and would integrate it into Meta's products anytime in 2025.

Additionally, Meta has utilised license and publicly available datasets to develop Movie Gen.

Meanwhile, another leading AI company OpenAI is reportedly in discussion of possible collaborations involving Sora. However, none of the deals have allegedly come out of those discussions yet.
