Meta has launched its first stand-alone AI app, Meta AI, which is now available for iPhone and iPad. Based on the Llama 4 model, this new app gives people a dedicated environment for text and voice chat, enabling them to engage with AI in a more conversational and personal manner.

Meta AI is geared to compete with other popular AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, offering a distinctive experience with a focus on personalisation and social interaction.

What to expect from Meta AI app?

The Meta AI app replaces the old Meta View app, which was used for controlling Meta smart glasses. The new app is an upgrade for the AI experience, incorporating functionalities such as voice response, image creation, and editing.

The users can communicate with their AI assistant via text or voice and even try a full-duplex speech demo voice, which provides a more realistic voice experience. The app doesn't tap into real-time data but tries to give one an idea about the future of AI-based communication.

Meta AI also has a social aspect in the form of a Discover feed, where users can share and discover AI prompts. This enables users to discover new uses of AI, making the app more engaging.

The app's personalised responses are based on users' interactions on Meta platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, providing customised experiences. Personalised features are available in the US and Canada at the moment.

Meta AI application needs a Meta account to run, and individuals can link their Facebook or Instagram accounts to help personalise.
