The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new programme providing lifetime Smart CNICs to Pakistani citizens who voluntarily commit to organ donation.
The identity cards will have a green heart symbol, which identifies the bearer as an organ donor and helps create a culture of humanitarian giving.
NADRA's smart NICs for organ donors
The new service can be accessed by all deserving citizens aged 18 years and above.
They can get the specially stamped Smart National Identity Card (SNIC) or National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) from any NADRA registration centre anywhere in the country.
Moreover, the facility is also available through the Pak-ID mobile app, which would be convenient for customers.
NADRA officials indicate that the green-heart sign not only represents an act of a citizen's life-saving but is also used in building a national organ donor database.
It is one of the authority's increasing efforts towards digital innovation and integration of public health through civil identity.
Earlier, NADRA had also made public the launch of computerised birth and death registration systems in hospitals all over Pakistan, another initiative towards computerising public documents and simplifying bureaucratic procedures for the people.
