Amid anticipation building around the nearing, impending pre-orders of Nintendo Switch 2, an unfavourable development has emerged on the scene, suggesting that the Switch 2 pre-orders in the US have been delayed.

Regarding the root cause of the unexpected delay, it was learned that tariffs enforced by US President Donald Trump triggered it.

As it stands, Nintendo Switch 2 fans in the US have no choice but to hold firmly the rope of patience as Nintendo has postponed the commencement of its latest Switch console's bookings.

The Japanese gaming giant confirmed the postponement on Friday this week. Switch 2 pre-orders were originally slated to go live on April 9. The company said it was assessing “the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.”

“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the US will not start April 9, 2025, in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs,” Nintendo said in a statement, adding that it “will update timing at a later date. The launch date of 5 June 2025 remains unchanged.”

Trump recently announced a spate of heavy tariffs on goods imports, especially from Asia, which brings about a significant portion of tech manufacturing, including Nintendo’s supply chain.
