The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has officially notified an increase in the price of imported Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG), effective September.
The price hike comes after the federal government lifted the ban on new gas connections for households after nearly four years, allowing Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Ltd (SSGCL) to provide RLNG connections to customers.

OGRA stated that RLNG prices have been increased by 28 cents per MMBTU for both distribution companies. The increase applies to customers of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).
The new price for Sui Northern has been set at $12.01 per MMBTU, reflecting a 2.38% increase. Meanwhile, for Sui Southern, the rate has been fixed at $11.1 per MMBTU, showing a 2.63% hike.
The government believes that the ban withdrawal will benefit households and formalise Pakistan’s shift toward costlier imported fuel as domestic reserves decline.
According to OGRA estimates, diverting RLNG to households costs Rs242 billion in FY2025, leading to tariff hikes across consumer categories.
The decision marks a major policy shift in Pakistan’s gas sector, aiming to provide relief to households but underscoring the country’s growing dependence on imports at a time of rising global fuel volatility.
In a strategic move, the government has adopted a compromise that extends vital connections to millions of households, while navigating a shift towards imported gas amid dwindling domestic supplies and an underdeveloped renewable energy sector.
