OpenAI, the parent company of the widely used ChatGPT, offers its users a wide range of generative AI models to test and use. Recently, OpenAI has begun rolling out a new advanced voice mode feature, specifically for those with a ChatGPT Plus subscription.

The feature was first announced during OpenAI's GPT-4 launch event in May. However, the launch was delayed from late June to July as the company needed additional time to meet its launch standards.

Another reason for the delay was safety concerns. The feature was criticised for sounding similar to Scarlett Johansson, the American actress who played an AI personality in the movie ‘Her’.

The new audio mode appears to be more capable than ChatGPT’s current voice mode. It enables users to speak to ChatGPT and receive real-time responses without any delay. During the event, when OpenAI employees asked the chatbot to tell a story in different ways, it adjusted its responses based on their interruptions.

Additionally, OpenAI has introduced new filters that recognise and block requests to generate music or other copyrighted audio.

The alpha version of the advanced voice mode feature will be available to a small group of ChatGPT Plus users initially. OpenAI plans to gradually roll it out to all Plus users by the autumn of 2024.
