In a bid to expand the array of its flagship, in-house AI models, ChatGPT maker OpenAI is set to launch the GPT-5.1 family, including three versions called GPT-5.1 (base), GPT-5.1 Reasoning, and GPT-5.1 Pro.

The Pro version of the GPT-5 is expected to cost £200 per month for premium users, with reports indicating that the latest GPT variants are already being deployed on Microsoft Azure, meaning a public release is expected soon.

The rollout of the GPT-5 family is in line with OpenAI’s pattern of releasing new models every three to four months, following the launch of GPT-5 on 7 August 2025.

While it is speculated that GPT-5.1 may not introduce major tweaks, rumour has it that it might deliver noticeable improvements, including faster performance, smoother interactions, and enhanced safeguards for sensitive queries.

OpenAI has also been developing its Codex models, recently releasing GPT-5-Codex-Mini, a cost-effective version that maintains performance close to the high-end Codex model while offering 50% higher rate limits for developers.

Codex-Mini is suited for simpler coding tasks and allows users to continue working as they approach their rate limits. The upcoming GPT-5.1 models are expected to further enhance Codex performance, improving code generation speed and accuracy.

The all-new GPT 5 comes in the midst of competitors like Google and Anthropic also advancing their AI technologies, which shows the continuously intensifying competition in the realm of AI.
