Opera browser for Android has extended its capabilities by introducing a new AI-powered “Image Understanding” feature, allowing the browser to understand and interpret the contexts of images.

The multi-platform web browser announced the feature in a dedicated blog post revealing that it works with the built-in Aria Browser AI chatbot.

Now using Opera’s Aria AI, users can upload images from their Android phone and ask queries, comment, or get information regarding these images shared with Opera, similar to how Google Gemini works.

Here’s how Opera’s Image Understanding feature works on Android

To access image context understanding in Opera, users need to access Aria in the app and tap the “+” button at the side of the chat input field.

After allowing access to the on-device selected files, users can upload an image or take a photo directly. However, Aria then uses “Image Understanding” to identify the images and give information based on users’ queries.

In this way, whether someone is exploring new places, or encountering unfamiliar objects, Image Understanding offers a more convenient way to gain insights directly from the Android device.

The feature is available with beta version 85 of the Android application but is expected to come to the stable app shortly.

However, those who want to use Opera’s Image Understanding for testing need to download the latest Opera Beta for Android devices from the Google Play Store.
