The Sindh government of Pakistan has made it mandatory for over three million old private and commercial vehicle owners to obtain new registration number plates within three months to avoid penalties.

With the targetted vehicle owners notified through a public notice issued by the Sindh excise and taxation secretary, the new vehicle registration number plates are reportedly printed with the Ajrak design.

Deadline for new number plate for Sindh vehicles

As it stands, the old number plates have been discontinued and must be replaced with new retro-reflective number plates by April 3, 2025, according to Dawn.

Reports surfacing on the internet suggesting that such a short deadline — less than 100 days (excluding weekly holidays) — is leading to public ire as the excise and taxation department was reportedly far from the workforce required to deal with over 28,000 vehicles every day and issue them new number plates till April 3.

The notice issued by the government obliges all private vehicles to have white number plates featuring the Sindhi Ajrak design, and all commercial vehicles to have yellow number plates with the same design.
