In a development bold enough to indicate an alarming surge in children's access to smartphones and tablets, the latest Kaspersky survey found that more than 50% of children receive their first smartphone or tablet at an early age.
The Kaspersky survey outlined that 52% of children in the META region (Middle East, Turkey, and Africa) receive their first personal gadget (a smartphone or tablet) between the early ages of three and seven, The News reported.
The findings of the survey stand crucial given the vulnerability of kids unaware of taking safety measures, falling prey to predatory online scammers victimising minors by using various traps including phishing scams and clickbaits. This also points to the underage youth's online safety, digital security and responsible internet use.
Around a quarter (22%) of respondents in the region claimed to have never discussed the responsible and careful use of the internet and online content.
This brings to light an unfavourable possibility of children, when left alone with their devices, being unable to navigate the maze of virtual worlds accessible through the internet.
The significance of gadgets also remained high for children, as 78% of youngsters, surveyed in the META region, noted that they can not live without their gadgets.
