Pakistan has approved its first National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy, which will create 3 million jobs in the AI domain by 2030 and increase the GDP of Pakistan by approximately seven to twelve percent.
Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima stated the policy is a comprehensive roadmap to responsibly and safely develop our AI technology and to compete with other countries around the world.
She stated it would help shape the local tech ecosystem and provide international opportunities for connection, collaboration, innovation, and sustainable economic development.
The policy, titled National AI Policy 2025, was approved by the federal cabinet, and it provides methods of funding research, education and skill development, enforcement of ethical AI, a public-private partnership focus and methods to support the expansion of AI in several domains (e.g., health, agriculture, education, and governance).
Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Khalid Magsi met with the ambassador of Romania in Pakistan to discuss ways for cooperation in science and technology.
Romania has offered Pakistan membership to European funding programmes, which Magsi said provide the opportunity for considerable technological benefits. He discussed Romania’s growing position as an IT hub in Europe and his interest in laying the foundation for deeper interstate relationships between the technology sectors in both countries.
Officials believe the new AI policy could serve as a catalyst for economic transformation, generating employment, modernising industries, and positioning Pakistan as a competitive player in the global digital economy.
