Amid rising regional tensions between India and Pakistan, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken strong action by blocking 16 Indian YouTube news channels, 31 YouTube video links, and 32 websites.
The content from these Indian channels and websites was found to be spreading fake news, promoting anti-Pakistan narratives, and targeting the country's unity.
However, PTA assured that the content was misleading and would adversely affect public perception, particularly during sensitive regional events.
By blocking these websites and channels, the PTA is trying to safeguard Pakistan's online environment from propaganda and false campaigns. The Authority stated that propagating propaganda on the internet not only misleads the public but also causes confusion, which can endanger peace and order.
PTA has always ensured that the internet in Pakistan is safe and responsible for everyone to use. It keeps a check on online material from time to time to find out if there is any threatening information against the national interests of Pakistan.
Further, the Authority has requested content creators and users to be responsible and refrain from posting or endorsing any false content. Maintaining a reliable online environment is among the highest concerns for the Authority.
PTA also said that it will keep taking stern action against any online platform or person who is involved in propagating propaganda or false news against the nation.
