Pakistan is aiming to increase its technology and energy cooperation with China, particularly in the areas of electric vehicles (EVs), lithium batteries, robotics, and drones.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) Haroon Akhtar Khan met the Chinese company CEO Huaguan to discuss new opportunities for cooperation.
The meeting was part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s overall vision to bring sustainable technologies that will change Pakistan’s energy future and industrial transformation.
At the meeting, Akhtar said electric vehicles are the future and are not a luxury anymore. EVs can help Pakistan limit its oil imports and cut environmental destruction. "We cannot afford to be left behind as the world transitions to greener transportation," he said.
They also discussed lithium batteries, which are essential for not just EVs but modern energy storage systems, and Akhtar noted that lithium batteries are key to improved energy security and to developing a resilient energy supply for new applications in Pakistan.
Huaguan’s CEO noted the company is also developing drones, powered by lithium batteries, for the agricultural sector. However, Huaguan rural agricultural drones are already being used in China to enhance management of crop inputs, reduce the cost of labour, and perform other functions such as crop monitoring. These drones will also be immensely useful in urban management and other applications.
Moreover, Akhtar further noted that robotics and drones are becoming part of daily life across industries, from healthcare and logistics to disaster management.
