The Pakistan Airports Authority has shut down Pakistan's airspace for all flights until 12 noon on May 11, 2025, in view of increasing security concerns. The move came after a recent escalation of military tensions between India and Pakistan.
The shutdown impacts all the domestic and international flights, both commercial and private. No plane will be able to travel in or out of the nation within this period.
Notably, it includes all the airports in Pakistan, major ones in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar.
In a statement released on Saturday, this is part of strict security precautions after military action mounted on both sides of the border. The authorities say the measure is taken for public safety and to prevent any risk to flights.
The airspace closure will have a significant effect on passengers, airlines, and cargo operations. Passengers are requested to remain in contact with their airlines for information on updated flight timings.
Several flights have already been cancelled or delayed, and passengers are encountering problems in rearranging their plans.
