The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has issued a license for the country's first digital-only non-life insurance company, Digi Insurance Limited.
This means that non-life insurance (e.g., car, travel or property) will now be available for Pakistanis entirely online, without any face-to-face or paper processes.
What is Digi Insurance?
Digi Insurance is a homegrown company that operates entirely on a digital-first model. Getting a policy, submitting claims, and other processes are entirely through the company's website or app, with no hard copies and no physical offices required.
Digi Insurance has received a license under the SECP's newly amended rules, which are designed to be adaptable and innovation-enhancing.
The new SECP rules aim to encourage tech-led financial solutions and make insurance more accessible to all members of society, especially to those without physical branches in their geographic area.
Digi Insurance says that a fully digital-first model will allow it to, first off, provide faster claims, lower costs, and best of all, the best customer experience to its policyholders.
Moreover, the company has employed smart technologies aligned with data analytics, which will enhance its ability to enhance the provision of insurance services in Pakistan.
The SECP believes an iconic license of this nature will be motivational for the other insurance companies to begin adopting similar approaches, which the SECP believes will enhance competition, promote new ways of thinking as well as stimulate the non-life insurance industry as a whole.
