A renowned Chinese company and the government of Pakistan have signed an agreement to invest $350 million to establish up to 3,000 Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations across the country.

The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Convenor of the Energy Standing Committee Malik Khuda Bakhsh, announced the ambitious plans. As part of this progressive initiative, EV stations will be established along the motorway from Peshawar to Karachi.

While addressing the attendees at a ceremony held at FPCCI's head office in Karachi, Bakhsh highlighted significant progress in Pakistan's electric transportation sector and FV Flash Charging Station. He further revealed that the initial investment to establish the EV stations would be $90 million.

Baksh further announced the inauguration ceremony for the EV charging station is expected to take place in the near future. In addition, by February 2025, up to $250 million will be allocated to the manufacturing process, marking a significant step towards self-reliance in EV infrastructure.

The set up of EV charging stations will not only reduce Pakistan’s reliance on fuel imports, saving the country's foreign exchange reserves, but it will contribute to reducing environmental pollution, he added.

Highlighting the growing interest of Chinese investors in Pakistan’s energy sector, Basksh announced that a delegation of Chinese investors is expected to visit the country soon to explore lucrative investment opportunities.

Currently, Chinese investors are engaged in in-depth conversations with the government of Pakistan, Sindh, and other private sectors regarding innovative technology transfer and other purposes that will be beneficial for both countries. These discussions span various sectors, including Thar Coalfield and alternative energy projects, areas where Pakistan holds untapped potential.

The government of Sindh has ensured full cooperation with investors, promising assistance with documentation, and facilitation of business operations.
