Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government has officially launched the enhanced Pak Business Express, a revamped train service between Lahore and Karachi, aimed at regaining public trust in Pakistan Railways.

The prime minister inaugurated the launch event, held at the Lahore Railway Station, and inspected the newly developed facilities introduced as part of the modernisation.

Notably, the Pak Business Express will operate between Lahore and Karachi, covering the route in approximately 18 hours and 30 minutes.

The service features air-conditioned compartments, online booking options, modern waiting areas, and reception points, all developed to improve passenger comfort and reliability.

Business-class travellers will benefit from upgraded European-style features. During his address, the prime minister praised Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi for bringing back a nearly dysfunctional system and turning it into an active service once again.

Moreover, he appreciated Khawaja Saad Rafique’s role during the previous PDM setup for reclaiming railway land and modernising key stations across the country.

“The installation of POS systems aims to modernise ticketing, simplify payment procedures and improve financial transparency within the railways department,” Abbasi stated.

“POS machines have started their work at some stations,” he added. “God willing, we will be installing ATMs and POS systems at 348 stations.”

With this development, the prime minister said that it is part of a broader agenda to reform public sector institutions and boost national infrastructure.

He noted continued cooperation with China under the second phase of CPEC, along with improving relations with the United States (US).
