The telecom industry in Pakistan is about to undergo a major transition as Pakistan will launch 5G services in the upcoming months, beginning with seven major cities, according to Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja.

Speaking at the 26th ITCN Asia Expo's opening ceremony at Expo Centre Karachi, Khawaja underlined the government's dedication to expanding internet connectivity across the country.

In spite of the difficulties in implementing 5G wireless technology, the minister emphasised Pakistan's resolve to fortify its digital infrastructure and boost economic expansion by signing a new deal with Saudi Arabia.

"Karachi bears the burden of the nation's economic progress," she stated, adding that the "Digital Pakistan" campaign has brought international recognition to Pakistan's tenacity.

Pakistan's Artificial Intelligence policy has been approved by the cabinet, and by the end of the year, 500,000 to 1 million young people will have received cybersecurity and AI training.

Khawaja stressed the value of digital skills for young people, saying, "Those who know the right use of technology will replace traditional positions."

Regarding inadequate data and mobile services, Khawaja mentioned that connectivity was disrupted by damage to two submarine cables in the Red Sea close to Jeddah.

In order to guarantee internet dependability, the government is attempting to improve fibreisation and increase submarine cable capacity.

Pakistan also successfully prevented recent Indian hacking attempts, guaranteeing that no official websites were compromised. Pakistan wants to boost economic growth and enhance its digital environment by introducing 5G services.
