With the next fortnightly price adjustment approaching, the government of Pakistan is expected to approve increase petroleum prices on October 16, with the hike ranging from Rs2.21 to Rs3.50 per litre.
According to the industry analysts, these adjustments at the refinery level are due to cumulative global oil prices and the depreciation of the Pakistani rupee.
Upon approval by the prime minister, the Ministry of Petroleum, in consultation with the Ministry of Finance, will confirm the new prices.
If approved, the new petroleum prices will further squeeze household budgets, specifically for low- and middle-income families who are already struggling with record-high inflation, soaring electricity tariffs and food prices.
Expected petrol price in Pakistan from October 16, 2025
Fuel type | Current price/per litre | Expected price/per litre | Difference |
Petrol | Rs268.68 | 270.89 | +2.21 |
High Speed Diesel (HSD) | Rs276.18 | 279.68 | +3.50 |
Earlier, petrol price in Pakistan was hiked by Rs4.07, and the high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs4.04. The increased cost of petrol and high-speed diesel directly contributes to the rising prices of commute fares, vegetables and other essential food items.
