With the next fortnightly price adjustment nearby, the federal government is expected to announce a reduction in petroleum prices on the midnight of December 15.

According to industry sources, the price of petrol might see a drop of Rs0.36, while High Speed Diesel (HSD) price is expected to decrease by Rs11.85 per litre, which would bring the new diesel price down to approximately Rs270.80 per litre.

The price of kerosene oil is likely to be reduced by Rs11.70 per litre, while Light Diesel Oil (LDO) prices may drop by Rs10.10 per litre.

The Ministry of Finance will announce updated prices from December 15 till December 31 on Monday (December 15) after consultation with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

If petroleum prices are reduced, household budgets, particularly for low- and middle-income families — who are already struggling with high inflation — will be benefited.
