Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed officials to make sure that the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is done on schedule, emphasising that the process should be completely transparent.
Addressing a meeting in Islamabad on Friday, the prime minister stated roadshows and active interaction with investors are key components of the strategy.
He also directed that the PIA privatisation and all subsequent state-owned enterprises' sales must be telecast live on television and online platforms in order to keep it transparent.
PIA privatisation
Privatisation is a process in which the government disposes of its firms to private investors so that they become more efficient and profitable.
At the meeting, officials briefed PM Shehbaz that a detailed strategy to approach investors has been finalised with the assistance of a consultant and is being adhered to in the correct manner.
The prime minister was also updated about the bidding process, the timeframe, and the conditions for the investors interested in joining it.
Senior federal ministers, advisers, and the National Coordinator of the Special Investment Facilitation Council graced the meeting. All agreed that the privatisation of the PIA had to be accomplished without further delays.
