As the gaming industry closes out a landmark year and looks ahead to a highly anticipated 2026, PlayStation Plus subscribers are once again turning their attention to Sony’s monthly game lineup.
With blockbuster releases like Grand Theft Auto 6 and Marvel’s Wolverine still on the horizon, PS Plus remains a key source of fresh content to bridge the wait.

Looking at recent trends, January has traditionally delivered strong offerings. The January 2023 lineup featured Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Fallout 76, and Axiom Verge 2, followed by A Plague Tale: Requiem and Evil West in 2024.
Even January 2025, led by Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, was bolstered by popular additions such as Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered and The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe.
With PS Plus presumably going to shift its focus to PS5 titles at the beginning of 2026, January may be one of the last opportunities to highlight key cross-generation releases. Of all fan wish lists, Red Dead Redemption 2 seems to stand out as a potential headliner.

With the original Red Dead Redemption finally joining PS Plus Extra and ongoing speculation around a next-gen update, this Rockstar epic would be a strong addition for Essential subscribers.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
The other contender in this list is Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Given the nominations of major awards for its sequel, bringing the original game to PS Plus Essential could get newer gamers into this franchise to tide them over while waiting for the sequel.
The Alters
Rounding out the list, The Alters represents the kind of smaller, narrative-driven title that often complements larger releases. Its focused sci-fi experience and critical acclaim make it a fitting addition to a well-balanced January lineup.
Should Sony want to start 2026 on a high, this heady cocktail of blockbusting storytelling, acclaimed RPG depth, and pioneering indie design might again set up PS Plus for a really strong year ahead.
