The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Thursday announced that the Device Identification Registration & Blocking System (DIRBS) will be temporarily unavailable due to scheduled system maintenance by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) from 10pm on Saturday, December 6, until Sunday evening, December 7.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PTA stated: "Individuals requiring urgent registration are advised to complete it prior to the maintenance window.
"PTA appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during this temporary service interruption," added the telecommunication authority.
Earlier on Tuesday, the PTA issued a clear warning after a fake notification spread rapidly across social media. "A fake notification on social media is claiming that the PTA has allegedly issued instructions to the administrators of social media groups to remove foreign members. This information is not true," said the authority, adding that the PTA has not issued any such directive.
The public is advised to refrain from spreading unverified information and rely only on the official platforms of the PTA for authentic and accurate information.
The PTA reminded the citizens that sharing fake regulatory documents could also fall under the relevant provisions of Pakistani cyber laws, which allow action for distributing fake or misleading official statements.
