The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has urged mobile users to ensure that all SIMs in use are registered strictly under their own names, warning that using SIMs registered to another individual violates existing regulations.

Through a press release on Wednesday, the regulator explained that the person whose SIM is registered is totally liable for all usage and misuse of that phone line.

According to PTA, using a SIM card responsibly is of utmost importance to ensure the safety of the country and the purity of the telecom infrastructure of the state.

In an attempt to enhance transparency, PTA requested that people check how many SIM cards are registered to their CNIC. This can be done through cnic.sims.pk, or people can send their CNIC number without dashes to 668 through SMS. People should retain only those SIM cards that they require.

The PTA has further advised the public to inform their service providers if they find any SIMs that have been issued to them without their consent or approval.

The authority has renewed its pledge to promote the responsible use of SIM cards and to facilitate secure, stable, and unbroken telecommunications services in the country.
