The Punjab government on Wednesday revised the Motor Vehicle Act, announcing heavy fines for eight major traffic violations with an aim to boost road safety and ensure responsible driving across the province.
According to officials, these measures will promote "responsible driving, reduce traffic accidents, and improve overall road discipline in Punjab."
Citizens to get heavy fines
The new rules target violations, which will cause you heavy traffic challan includes:
- Air pollution from your vehicle
- Illegal parking
- Underage driving
- Mobile phone use while driving
- Overloading on motorcycles
- Not wearing seatbelt
- Obstructing roads
- Carrying excess passengers
It should be noted that drivers causing air pollution can face fines ranging from Rs5,000 for motorcycles to Rs20,000 for heavy transport vehicles (HTVs).
Underage driving carries the highest penalties, reaching up to Rs10,000 for HTVs. The government highlighted that strict enforcement and awareness campaigns are to ensure compliance with the updated regulations.
