The Punjab government on Wednesday announced the launch of 40 more electric buses in Lahore in addition to the existing e-buses.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will inaugurate the new fleet on Friday, after which the total number of electric buses in the provincial capital will increase to 67.

With the launch of a new fleet of electric buses, the chief minister has also directed the restructuring of routes, aiming to provide improved connectivity, marking a fresh phase of electric bus operations in the city.

It is worth noting that the buses are equipped with modern facilities, including GPS, Wi-Fi, USB ports, and ramps for persons with disabilities.

Moreover, they feature designated seating, a separate section for women, and onboard cameras for passenger safety.

More than 43,000 commuters are expected to benefit from the electric bus service daily. Passengers can pay fares via digital wallets and smart cards, while an app will allow real-time bus tracking.

Previously, the provincial government announced its plans to launch a state-of-the-art public transport system by mid-October by deploying 80 electric buses in Rawalpindi.

According to officials, the project will assist in modernising the city's transport system, lowering emissions in the cantonment and garrison city areas, and decreasing dependency on private vehicles.
