The Punjab government on Wednesday launched a new digital payment system that enables residents to use digital wallets and mobile banking to pay municipal service costs.
Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman and Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique introduced the e-billing system in Lahore.
Residents of Punjab can now pay municipal bills, fines, and penalties from the comfort of their homes thanks to this initiative.
The system accepts payments for shop rentals, water costs and building plan fees for 229 local government entities.
The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and the Bank of Punjab (BOP) collaborated on the e-billing system.
BOP is now permitted to collect various municipal fees on behalf of the province's local governments.
According to Rafique, the objective is to make payments easy, quick, and transparent.
He commended the governance reforms implemented by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, pointing out that the "Suthra Punjab" initiative has received international acclaim as the largest single-network waste management system in the world, according to Forbes.
Zaman highlighted that technology-driven platforms like e-Biz, e-tendering, and e-FOAS (e-Filing and Office Automation System) are already enhancing service delivery. He attributed these efforts to collaboration.
