Punjab likely to announce 10% salary raise for govt employees

With the Punjab government all set to announce its budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 tomorrow, it has emerged that a potential 10% salary increase is likely for government employees.

Aimed at improving government officials' financial situation in the wake of ongoing economic challenges, the purported salary hike may be included in the upcoming budget.

A total budget of over Rs5,300 billion is expected to be unveiled by the Punjab government, out of which Rs4,060 billion will be designated for non-development expenditures, while Rs1,240 billion is allocated for the Annual Development Programme (ADP).

Punjab's development budget will encompass 3,132 schemes, with Rs535.98 billion fixed for 1,441 ongoing projects and Rs470.62 billion for 1,663 new initiatives.

Besides, an additional Rs233.40bn will be allocated for 28 legacy development projects, whereas funding for the development budget will primarily come from local resources, totalling Rs1,115.70 billion, with Rs124.30 billion sourced from foreign assistance.

The impending Punjab budget presentation comes on the heels of similar budget disclosures by the Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments after the federal government.
