In partnership with the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), the Rawalpindi Railway Station is being converted into a "safe and smart" facility, the Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi announced on Monday.
Anticipated to be finished by October 15, the renovation includes the installation of executive lounges, contemporary waiting areas, escalators, and free Wi-Fi.
This was made public by Abbasi at a press conference following the opening of a new track for the Subak Khurram railcar (104DN).
The renovation, Abbasi stressed, is a component of a larger effort to enhance amenities and cleanliness at train stations across the country.
A phased replacement of racks on four railcars that run between Lahore and Rawalpindi is one of the reforms being implemented by Pakistan Railways to provide contemporary and comfortable travel options.
The Capital Development Authority has supported the launch of a new rail service between the stations of Margalla and Rawalpindi.
Important infrastructure improvements include the building of an interchange on 9th Avenue close to Margalla Station and the introduction of an electric bus service that connects Shibli Chowk and Rawalpindi Railway Station.
The restoration of the Narowal section was confirmed by Abbasi on October 25. There will be 60 newly built coaches and 400 upgraded coaches added to the railway fleet by December 31.
To improve safety and security protocols, biometric passenger identification is also being planned.
Pakistan Railways' dedication to updating its infrastructure and services is demonstrated by these developments.
A major step forward in the railway's transformation journey, the upgrades are intended to give passengers a smooth and safe travel experience.
